Greetings gentlemen,

I think it's appropriate to introduce myself since I just joined the forum.

I'm a recently retired Belgian soldier, 52 years, living in Roeselare. I have been wet shaving with DE razors for a very long time but recently have become interested in straight razor shaving. I bought two vintage razors in the UK and a strop. At first I thought the razors where far to small and light for my hands and was a bit disappointed, but I got lucky and a visitor to my home showed me how to shave. Since, I've tried every day, only parts of my face so far and only WTG, the chin and under the nose will have to wait until I'm more confident. But I'm enjoying myself.

Next step will be the acquisition of some vintage cheap razors that are shave ready, to shave with but mainly to use for practising honing in the near future. I've sharpened all my kitchen and other knifes with a edgepro system in the past but razor honing is something different of course. A good honing stone just for keeping the razors in good shaving condition should do, I'll keep reading this very interesting forum for a while and then try to buy a decent one and practice with it.

btw. I was a bit surprised that several Belgian people who are also on this forum and another one without knowing me in person offered me to try out some of there razors to see which ones I liked the most. That's amazing! Thanks guys!

Have a nice shave, greets Ron

Hello Ron, welcome. I bet you will be amazed by quite a few things when you spend some more time here.

Have a nice time at coticule.be :)

Hi Ron and Welcome. I almost never welcome a new member only because so many others carry that torch so well, but I am compelled to this time. As a US Navy vet and airline pilot, I always make a special welcome to those on my flights who serve or have a loved one serving their country. It doesn't much matter to me which country, as all servicemen know. I honor your contribution and look forward to getting to know you better.

Welcome aboard. Denny

Welkom Ron, I hope you enjoy it here at Coticule.be, please do not be afraid to ask questions, we are indeed all here to learn and share

Best wishes

Don't know what you said, Limey, but it is easy to see I am on Jared's side here. I'm gonna have to learn Pig Latin and then I'll show you. Yeah.

The good doctor Ralfson is fluent in many languages.

Ron, Welkom op Coticule.be.

If you need any sorts of advice about shaving or razor maintenance, we're all here to help.

I am replying before I read/translate Injectorman's second secret code, but thanks for the tip. I will honestly say that this site has made me much more computer savvy. Obviously not ready for IT yet, but better. Thanks, Matt. BTW, it didn't take much translation to get the dig at the US. Bring it on, Limester.

Thanks everyone for the welcome, this is really a very good forum, I've been reading on a few other and the more you read the more you get confused ;-)

Mr. Decraew suggested I take a look here to learn more about the coticule stone. I like to keep things simple, I prefer not having to buy a lot of different stones to hone my razors so I guess I'm in the right place. Looking forward to the time that there is another meeting to see some of you specialists in action. In the near future I'm going to buy a whetstone to keep my razors shave worthy. Have a nice weekend, ron
