Cleaning without removing frosting/etching?

I have a question, is there any way to bring out a frosting/etching on a blade, so it is more visible without destroying/removing it? I was thinking about giving it a very light polish with some Flitz, but I'm not sure if this will harm/remove it.:-/ Would mineral oil be strong enough to remove dirt/grime that has built up over the years but gentle enough not to remove the frosting/etching and patina? Any advice? I would like to clean the blade, but I want to keep its original frosting of an eagle with two american flags and the words "FREEDOM PROTECTED", is there anything that can be done?

Hi Louis. Dependent of how deep is the frosting/etching .My opinion is to clean the razor by a small felt wheel with paste(like a dreamel or something similar) around of the label.Keep the limits of the label, cleaning as much as you want balance surface. Then you can use a clear wheel pasted with salt wet by a little lemon juice.Salt and lemon juice will clear the surface that includes the letters without to remove something. If the label will remain a little bit darker if is symmetrical surly will be very beautiful.Good luck,

Emmanuel, I appreciate the advice on how to go about this, but I'm not sure I fully understand the process you are describing. This is what I got from it. I should first use a buffing wheel to lightly buff the blade with a "paste" not sure what paste you are speaking of, maybe flitz? Cleaning as much of the surface as I see fit, then use a seperate wheel that is wet with lemon juice and salt, and this will darken the lable(frosting) wich will make it more visible. Is this a correct translation of the process?

Thank you Emmanuel,
Louis.

Hi Luis. Yes you have to clean the blade a small buffing wheel one inch like Dremel with normal paste (1000 grade) except the frosting/etching .AS said with a separate wheel wet with lemon and salt you will clean the frosting/etching ,but the lemon and salt will clean the area less, remaining more patina than the lapping paste. I'm sure it will not destroy the letters and will be beautiful.

Postscript .If you like you can use a piece of tape to cover the frosting/etching giving a symmetrical shape.
