After the shave I had an appointment with the dentist to get a filling replaced. It went well.

In the past barbers did basic dentist work (tooth extraction). Maybe that's why a dentist chairs is a fancy barbers chair.

The assignment is lay still and hope for the best.

Well ... I'm going to disappoint you here. 95% of my shaves are using a Simpson schizophrenic synth, MdC Original (a gift (very much appreciated!) from @Jake only use another (ToBS Lavendar creme) when I'm in a hurry) and my repaired formerly broken Merkur 37. Blade: Merkur or Voskhod.
Post shave only cold water.
