It was a fair bit on the tiny side compared to some of the other stones I've been working with lately:

After a bit of time with an equally miniscule 725 grit diamond stone:

The other stones are a Norton 4000/8000 and a Chinese 15k

I have seen the color many times before on vintage stones. If I am correct the brownish coticule layers will be very fast on water or slurry. I don't think it is from the site that is now Ardennes.

Are you referring to the Ol' Preu quarry?

Correct. I was not sure on the spelling. Now that doesn't mean it couldn't be from there I just have seen similar and none have been been identified.
