CrOx/BBW slurry

Two days ago, I honed a razor with a wide bevel to HHT3 on thick hair. Then I tried to boost the HHT with Crox on a balsa hone, I did about 50 laps (I know it's way too much) and get a HHT4 on thin hair, then I had about 30 laps but the HHT didn' t increase anymore. I stropped and shaved. The shave was good.
After that, I rub twice a bbw slurry stone on the BBW side and did 50 x back strokes (like in uniblue final stage), the HHT was a little weaker than this obtained with Crox. The shave was as good and something more confortable.

So is it a placebo effect?

NB: I didn't notice a big improvment of the HHT after stropping the BBW back honed edge

A small difference between a CrO finished and a BBW finished edge does not surprise me. I would expect that difference to be difficult to qualify during 2 test shaves. For me, even with exactly the same razor, same edge, there is a small variance in my shaving experience. However small, it's important enough to blur the readings between differently honed edges. I try to rule out that kind of variance by shaving with 2 identical razors at once, each of them sharpened with a different approach, but even then it's often a long shot to draw conclusions. The longer I do this, the more I'm leaning to the conclusion that a well-honed edge behaves like a ... well-honed edge.:)

Kind regards,
Bart.

I then did another set of 50 back strokes on BBW with misty slurry
no change in the shave
Then yesterday did about 10 strokes on the side of my La Veinette
No change in the shave but HHT was a bit less nevertheless HHT 4.

So I agree with your conclusion Bart all the more since I also have to improve my shaving technique to get used to this kind of sharpness.

But how many strokes or back strokes are necessary to go from a CrO edge to a coticule edge?

is it also possible to boost the HHT at the final stage of dilucot using back strokes either on BBW or on coticule?

Friend Laurent if you reach a HHT 4,what you need more.Do you are content of the shave Quality ?
Is the HHT scale correct and objective. If you remember well mine and yours was a bit different. however i believe even five strokes on the coticule after Crox the edge is coming from coticule.

HHT-4 is more than enough for me, Emmanuel, even a bit too much according to my shaving technique.
This HHT-4 is on par with yours but I have to use some (A LOT:blush: ) cheating (CrO diversion).
Maybe one day I can achieve this with my coticule only.

Is there an advantage using back strokes on coticule?

Laurent

Yes Laurent, some times back strokes help for razors presenting resistance as the inoxes ,but no more than 10 strokes.
Best regards
Emmanuel
