D.Pétard Razor

The "D. Pétard" is, as many know, a rare and highly sought after DE safety razor. I've been looking for one for years and have only seen a couple come up for sale. Finally, I managed to snag one!

Daniel Ernest Joseph Pétard produced this razor in Nice, France, apparently on the "Avenue de la Victoire" (as per the attached razor's case, I can't make out the actual address number). Looks like a fairly prominent location in any event, from the early post card I've taken the liberty of borrowing from the net.

This particular example hails from the town of "Cannes la Bocca" which is just 38 km. distance from the city of Nice. I wonder if this razor traveled only that short distance in its first 85 or 90 years, before coming to me?

The razor's unusual in at least a couple of ways. It's "curved", although apparently it was designed as a man's razor (and not meant for a lady's underarms). And the safety bars are on the cap (like the Leresche 77, for example), unlike almost all other DE's.

I've seen the same model as this one housed in a nice wooden case, and it was branded "D. Petard". This one of mine has no branding imprinted on it.

It's 63 grams. The handle looks to be aluminum, while the rest is brass I think. There's a few other models of "D. Pétard rasoir" to be found, some without the curve. I haven't tried it yet but I'm looking forward to doing so.

Beautiful razor/pics, and nice write-up. Thanks!
There's more of these frowning razors around, see Maravilla in Spain for instance, that were all meant for men (Maravilla made one especially for women). These aren't as pretty as these Pétard though.

(Hurts a bit seeing your pics, as mine, one curved, one not, were lost in the mail, together with an engraved Mvltiplex)

Wow! What a shame. I've always dreaded that. In fact, I dread it each time I buy a razor! How suspicious though, isn't it, that 3 rare and valuable razors just end up "missing"? That is really disappointing and annoying. I feel for you.
