First question.

Hello All,

I have been a member here for some time reading and learning quite a bit, I hope. I have been using Str8s for a bit over a year now and have been honing my own blades for some 10 or 11 months. I have been getting consistent results using the Shaptons, 1k, 2k, 4k, 8k, & 16k only. This will be changing shortly as I just purchased my first Coti via the Vault ( Thank you Bart). I have always used tape when honing. Thus my first question.

Which method would be recommended for a newbie to use tape with from bevel correction to finish? Or should I not worry about the tape issue and just start with the Unicot method until I acquire more experience?

Thank you all for this wonderful, educational, and gentlemanly forum.

If you mean that you use tape throughout, then the answer is that you could use either. For unicot, you'd just be adding a second layer of tape when you get to the last step of the unicot procedure.

I've never used unicot so can't comment based on first-hand experience whether unicot or dilucot is easier to learn.

Hi Lu :)
Nice to see you here buddy, I know you will find the unicot method far easier than the dilucot to start with
If you start with your usual layer of tape, then add another after you have set the bevel, I am sure you wil achieve great results

Best wishes your friend across the pond
