My "new" NOS S.R Droescher Coticule (choice grade).

Something bad happened, I was using this stone the other night and the bbw backing slid right off from the coticule, probably from old glue drying out..

I reglued it with super glue as its all I had on hand, I didn't want the stone to break without support.

Super glue should be just fine. I've done the same thing... I really enjoy my coticules, but I don't care for the splintering and separating that I've experienced...

Yes, the old hide glue - beeswax mixture that holds most vintage Coticules together is prone to separate "prematurely", after a year or 100. ;)

If you scraped off the old gunk, any waterproof glue with some filling properties will do. If a natural combo separates, which can happen on a rare blue Monday, the tight fit is best glued with CA-glue.

Kind regards,
Bart.

The glue seemed to last 885 years or so, so I think it has done it's job!

Thanks for the advice, I went to take the hone from the box and I was horrified.
