Sadly that's all to small to show up at Google maps.

One of these by any chance?

That's very impressive.

The first is the enterence of The Old Rock mine. But recently the enterence has been resealed, with a thick steel gate. The gate has a hole for bats, because the mine is now declared a refuge for bats, and has a no entry sign.

The second picture is probably the original mining pit of Old Rock. Old Rock started as a mine with a vertical access, hence the existence of a shaft. Later, they excavated a gallery that connected with an existing slate mine, that had a horizontal access tunnel. This is the one of the first picture. There are many of those pits in the area. But the last few years, the authorities have been summing the owners of land that has pits, to fill them with rock debris, or to properly seal them. Still, I wouldn't enter those woods at night, without the company of a good flashlight.

Thanks for sharing those pictures. The Internet and the resourcefulness of our members never ceases to amaze me.

whew! How'd you like to have that for a daily commute?
I was buried in a trench 20 odd years ago, so I have a healthy respect for anyone that would contemplate working in those conditions! Just imagine the working conditions, and to be industriously chipping away at the freaking walls! You know... those things that are holding up the rest of the world above you!
