The Coti Difference, NOW I get it.

I'm a newbie to straights( about 5 months in) and I really didn't understand what people were talking about when they referred to the difference in sharp, keen, mellow, etc. NOW I get it. Many of my razors came professionally honed and I got cut alot in the beginning( no surprise there, I'm a newbie.

BUT it seemed like the blades were TOO sharp although that didn't make sense to me.Now I have a bunch of lovely coticules and I'm learning how to use them and the differences that each have on each of my razors. My own honing experiment if you will. One razor and all the touch ups are done on a different coti to learn it better.

The last two days the razor was a new Revisor 5/8's with a factory edge that I touched up with a Nouvell Vein coti I got from Jarrod. Nice but not perfect. Yesterday I redid the edge with another Jarrod coti, this time a Les Lats and WOW! One pass shave with that 'buttery' feeling I read about so much.

Like it was just cutting hair but NOT skin. In fact I thought I had nicked myself at one misplacement but nothing! Amazing. Here's my little collection above and I have 4 more coming in the post. CAD is in full swing but I think I'm good for awhile now.

markrif, do you have pictures of the La Nouvelle Veine that you got from Jarrod? Is it the narrow one on the left? If so, I think it's about 14-18mm wide, and around 200mm long, right?

the one I was referring to as the nouvell vein is the top left one. I sent you a closeup picture via email.that is what Jarrod told me he thought it was. whatever it is it is agreat stone

LA Nouvelle Veine is a great layer, I love them.

Enjoy the stone and your very easy shaves.
