Some time ago I bought a box with different items, one of the items is this small boxed hone, approx. 110*27 mm.

I have no clue as to what type it is...Any ideas anyone?

Not that I've seen one before but the wording on the label is uncannily similar to the stone described here:

Hi

Hmmm...Escher or Thury...how does one tell the difference???

Thanks
Torbs

An Escher would have an Escher sticker on it. Escher was a company, not anything different from any other Thüringer hone that was mined.

Thank you Torbs,
I have had a larger one gifted me. The later link by Clovis gives the rest of the information as to the origin of the stone. the outside of that box is the secret!
They are nice finishers!

Agree That's a thuringer.Escher or thuringer be cut from the same rock.Eschers are a little bit larger and stickered .

Thank you lads..

A Thury it is then :p

I had forgotten all about the stone untill today when it was refound in a drawer...I have no need for it though so it might be traded for something else.

Thanks again

Just to confirm what everyone else has said, it's a Thuringian. I have one myself and fine finishers they are too

Nice little hone, for sure!

Hmm...the logo seems to contain the letters, DSG overlapping each other? Might be a place to start a source-search?

Thanks,

Mac

Thanks gents.

The stone has now been traded away.
Funny thing,I went back to take a look in the same drawer and found a 145*40 mm stone looking excatly the same ;-) Thats not for trade though as it was my grandfathers and great-grandfathers stone for honing chisels.

Kind regards
Torbs
