Before the coticule

Thanks for the info, I will do a search. I'd like to get rid of the sandpaper, the cost goes up quickly if you need to buy these for each razor imo. I think I passed the 20 EUR mark already, that's why I started wondering.

The bandwidth thing is ok, I can upload on other places, I was just wondering if it was allowed. But you know what, it concernes a Bartmann so I'm SURE you will be OK with it :)

I'm sure that combo would serve you well. If you don't want to use the diamond plate on your razors you could use it to lap the combo stone.

Hey guys, anyone else have suggestions for stones of that grit in that price range? I'm getting too tempted to buy it and want to research a little bit more for other stones (part of the fun!) :)

I have to say I like the darn stone!

Being a CERAMIC stone, does that mean it never needs flattening? I have no clue
It depends, in this case the ceramic abrasive particles are probably "glued" together with a resin binder. The binder abrades while honing, exposing an continuous flow of fresh particles.
There's another type of ceramic hone (i.e. Spiderco) that's made of ceramic particles pressed and fired together like a brick. These hones need cleaning, but (almost no) lapping. The hone we are discussing (the Kai) is of the former type, I believe.

Oh, well it certainly looks nice. Do you happen to have any experience with this one? Antwerp is going to be difficult to reach on a one hour lunchbreak, so need to make sure it's worth getting fired for... :scared: just kidding of course, but still, if anyone has any feedback (can't find any on google), would be nice!

Kai Shun is a knife manufacturer with a premium reputation.
Here are some links to the hone we're talking about. You asked for something you could purchase locally at a fair price, that would take care of coarser honing requirements than a Coticule can offer. The grit range is perfect. 300 is the coarsest you'd ever want to use for repairing razors. The 1K will easily clean up the raggedness off a 300, before taking it to the Coticule with slurry. (You could possible skip the 1K and go straight to the Coticule, but since you have the hone soaked up anyway, my bet is you would like to use that 1K. Regardless what some sources say, that hone will benefit form soaking before use.

It is not has heavily documented on the Net as hones popular on the US based knife honing forums.

Bart.

Thanks everyone, looks like I'm going to go out and buy it. I went to the Chinese supermarket to see if they sold some hones for their fancy knives they sell there, but it seemed extremely low grit and horrible quality whetstones, so I decided to check this Kai out.
