Out of curiosity - Bart, how many coticules do you have at home? :w00t:
best wishes,
Matt
There are 4 Coticule that I own in the drawer of my desk: There a 40X180 La Grise, the first one I got. Actually the second, the very first was a 80X110, that I bought because it was wide enough for the entire lenght of my razor. I sold it after I learned about the necessity of the X-stroke and replaced it with the 40X180 La grise. Next I purchased a very pink bout size 9 (La Dressante), that I bought the first time I visited Ardennes. (On a backpacking trip, you can read about that visit here). I bought it out of courtesy for the heartwarming receive we got at Ardennes. On the same day, I also bought a very narrow and ugly "3th grade" Coticule of 10mmX175mm. I have no idea about the layer. Works like a charm, not only on warped blades, but I did buy if for that purpose.
The next hone I purchased was n°55 of the Vault, because I love the feel of those Les Latneuses so much. It's 40X175.
Then I have a large number of raw Coticule slices, picked at various former mining spots. Of most rocks I have one lapped sample, that I used during 2008 for testing purposes. I keep one of those slices in my workshop where it sees much use on chisels and plane blades.
There are other Coticules and BBWs present in my home, but they all belong to Ardennes Coticule and are in various stages of testing. Right now there are 5 different BBWs and 6 or 7 Coticules in the cabinent where I keep hones that aren't mine.
Then there's the special case of n°62. I would like to "collect" some kind of archive of archetypical Coticules, with a representatives of each layer and, where applicable, sublayer. I haven't decided whether I am going to buy all these hones (which would make the collection mine) or whether I'm going to try working out some kind of deal with Ardennes to make it a public collection (owned by Ardennes). We'll see.
Kind regards,
Bart.
