Coticule selection offer

Bart,

Just curious is the bottom of my LGB slate? It's tough to tell with that dark chocolate color where coticule begins and ends :)

Justin, yours is a natural combination. It has a functional BBW back.

Best regards,
Bart.

Great news Bart!!! Thanks!

Tok: A La Petite Blanche with a rash.:) Bout size 8 - 20X170X40 81EUR
"Not narrower than 2 cm at the narrowest point" he said. "Not shorter than 14cm" he said. "A La Petite Blanche" he said. "Maximum 80EUR" he said. I failed on the price. I also turned Ardennes upside down for La Petite Blanches.
Note that this is a glued Blanche (rare, but it happens), hence no BBW on the back. The blue "evidence line" is present though.

Laurent Plankaert: La Petite Blanche, glued to slate, 40X150, 72EUR
I made a mistake when I picked a La Veinette for him. He already owns that layer, and wanted anything but a La Veinette. Somehow, my mind reversed that. Anyway, today I drove back to Ardennes, and... ( only joking) I checked the Coticules I brought home for the next Vault, and would like to offer this glued La Petite Blanche to Laurent. It's from the same rock as Paul's La Petite Blanche, with the exception that this one is flamed instead of clouded. The raw rock of these separated from the Blue, that's why they have been glued to slate. Laurent, I hope this is fine for you, otherwise I'll make it up to you on another occasion.

Darn, that´s a sweet hone. If Laurent doesn´t want it (which I doubt), can I get it instead of the one you picked for me (Looks a little nicer, still has the right size and is cheaper…)? If not, I´ll take mine. You spent so much of your time to pick one for me, and to be honest, I´d feel bad if I wouldn´t. What will happen to the ones that aren´t confirmed? Do you put them in the vault?

Thanks and Regards,
Tok

I see some people regretting not jumping in on this offer. If anyone is looking for their first Coticule they are free to take the one Bart chose for me. I believe it would make an excellent first hone. Post in here if you are interested.

Um - hello!

I know I haven't been here long and haven't said anything yet. Just soaking up the information at the moment. I have already ordered a coticule direct from Ardennes to use with my straight razors, but the information overload of reading about all the minute nuances of the stones here has had my head reeling and I'm wondering whether ordering blind from Ardennes was a good idea. The idea of one with a natural BBW on the back is very appealing, but I've no idea how to order one, I'm just itching to get started!

I would like to tentatively ask whether it would be OK to go for Justin's original as a first hone like he is suggesting. Please ignore me if there are loads of people out there waiting for stones like these to come up though - it's probably too good for me and I wouldn't want to tread on anyone's toes.

Cheers - and congratulations on keeping such a nice focussed forum (I'm a member of many and look after a couple - this is simply one of the best I've ever come across)

Hi John and welcome to Coticule.be

I can not speak for the Coticule selection, however I do know you would not be treading on any toes, I am sure Bart will be able to let you know if a reserve stone is available.

Welcome once again, and please feel free to ask about honing etc, check out the links above as well, there's some very useful information there too my friend

Best regards

Thanks for the welcome Doctor!

I'm certain I will be asking for lots of information once I can get started, my honing experiences are certainly limited to a Norton 4000/8000 and haven't been tested much - all I know is that I can get a razor sharper, but it usually hurts my face like hell afterwards even though it is a bit sharper on the tests.

Anyway - I don't want to go off topic straight away - I'll say hello elsewhere. If Bart thinks what Ardennes send me direct off the website will be enough to get started with then I'll keep with that - but if I could benefit from a special stone, then I'd love to start off with something a bit forgiving!

Cheers

welkome!

as far as I know any coticule will do. what you can benefit from is posting a few pictures of yours on arrival and then based on the layer we maybe can give more information on how to play with it (extra or less laps etc.)

kind regards

That is a very generous offer Justin and if I hadn't recently picked up a coticule from the superiorshave I'd be all over that.

That is not quite how we're going to do this. If you don't like to purchase the hone I wrote your name on, it's ok. No problem.
But I'm not going to write Maurice an e-mail to tell him that "John's stone goes to Peter and Michael's stone goes to John, but not the previously mentioned John, the other one..."

So we're not going to take that route, I'm sorry and I hope you understand.
There is one reserve stone left (reserve 2). If you want that instead of the one I picked for you, let me know. If you won't be purchasing anything, as said, that's fine too. I realize that not all my selections match perfect with all requests made. This wasn't easy.

Kindest regards,
Bart.

Understood Bart. I don't know what I was thinking really, just saw the post by Justin in amongst everything else and bit on the bait. I need to get on with the coticule I have already ordered and practice using all the wonderful information on honing techniques here on this website once it arrives.

Cheers

It's okay, John. The Coticule you ordered will be fine anyway. They're all very capable of honing a perfect razor's edge. The most important part of learning how to use a Coticule, is that you stick with the one you have until you've mastered it. At that point, you may likely not feel the need to buy another one, because, eh, well, if you already have a car that can take you where ever you want to go, why would you want to buy a second one?:)
Unless of course you have this fondness for automobiles, in which case you might find the pleasure of driving more than one worth the cost of owning more than one. ;)

Kind regards,
Bart.

Sorry Bart. I still want it. I'd just feel bad taking a stone for my own and having somebody miss out on their first Coticule, that's all.

There's no need for apologies my friend. I know you intended it well. But I know we need to keep this simple or people will start getting the wrong Coticules in the mail...

There were plenty of Coticules left at Ardennes, when I left there on Friday. :D So no one should be missing out on one.

Kind regards,
Bart.

I'm sure there are, but none of those were hand-picked by such a kind fellow as yourself :D (although they were mined by one :) ).

Seriously, John, none of these Coticules are special, they are just a couple of rocks out of who knows how many. In fact the one you ordered from Ardennes will be your most special of all, the first one always is! Please post pictures.

Justin

Cheers Justin,

And you know I will too! I'm a train-spotter at heart really (do you have those in Belgium/USA?) - it's just that I don't like trains that much. Anything else which adds value to life though ... I like those things!

All the best,

Squeezy

Hello Bart,

I truly apologize, but after sleeping over it, I think, I´m not fine with the Bout you chose for me. I know you did your best and I really feel bad about it, but it´s just not what I expected.

Is there any way, I can make it up to you? I realized you enjoy woodworking. I have some european pieces of wood(Pretty small ones, though…), maybe, I could send you a little parcel…? I dunno, it just doesn´t seem right for me not to give something back.

Regards,
Tok

Tok, it's ok. I don't need anything in return. One can't please everyone, nor did I expect to. I would hate is if anyone purchased the stone I picked, only out of some sense of obligation on my account.

Kind regards,
Bart.

If no one chimes in to take Tok's stone I would gladly take that one as well. I don't want to take something from someone that wasn't getting one, but if it goes unclaimed I would have absolutely no problem with that stone as well.
