Coticule selection offer

I ... lack words. Thank you again Bart for your help! I look forward to seeing what happens. And thank you very much for the kind words. I just try to help where I can. :)

As far as stabilizing the crack, I was thinking that maybe heating the stone on the stone might help the glue get in all the way. The only problem is that the stove in this apartment is electric, and they are not known for good temperature regulation. Scott (life2short1971) suggested a cheap CA, since they are usually more runny. Wedging the crack open a little sounds like it may help, using capillary action to my advantage. The alternative is finding hide glue, but I'm not savouring that option.

If it means anything, I did something very similar to the stone I got for work. It had a small horizontal seperation at one end that extended about 1" into the stone. It did exactly as you describe when lapping, compressing during lapping, and springing back up after. I was able to fit the tip of a round pointy toothpick into the very end to wedge it apart just ever so gently to get enough room for the thin type CA to run into the crack. Popped the toothpick out and squeezed the crack shut. Worked beautifuly. Except for gluing myself to the stone:p A quick lapping cleaned all the extra glue and thumb print left behind and the crack seems to be perfectly sealed.

I just got off the phone with Maurice.

He told me you can try to repair the stone. Should it break, or not turn out good, you'll get the replacement. If you can't be bothered with the repair, you can get the replacement "reserve 2", if you pay for the price difference. Or any other stone they have in stock.

He didn't go along with considering the stone a total loss, and sending you a replacement without returning this one. I guess they'd attempt a repair themselves if the stone returns.

Well, I did my best. Whatever you decide, they will take good care of you. Maurice was already expecting your e-mail.

Kind regards,
Bart

Thank you Bart! I really appreciate your help. I got a quick reply from Maurice saying that he will get back to me tomorrow (not in the office today). I will hold off on doing anything until I hear back from him.

Mine here!

So I took a predulled razor, and performed a Diluctot, HHT after dilution was a nice 3! after finishing on water I was getting HHT4, and after stropping a 5 on medium/fine hair, and a very healthy 4/5 on my thicker samples.

A joy to use and looking at the thickness of it, I am sure I will never ever wear it out.

I am yet to test shave, but the results look promising indeed

A Thousand thank you's to Sir Bart for choosing this one for me, and we know each other well enough for me to say, I knew you would know that "the voice" was right

Here it is straight out of the box:

Right then I am off to take it for a spin!

I think the slurry stone is even beautiful. It is big enough for a travel stone. Nice score, Inky.

Thank Guys, Bart did me proud

The shave btw, was spot on, I can honestly say that once i have used it a little more, I should be able to achieve the "Magical" finish we get now and then

The La Grise Bart so kindly evaluated and selected for me arrived in New Yawk, safe and sound about an hour ago.
Thanks once again to Bart for his efforts!

Very nice stones, Bill and Ralfy.

Also, it looks like reserve #2 is heading this way! :w00t:

La Crackette is going to see some surgery coming soon, too.

Kudos to Ardennes for being awesome as usual.

My new stone has arrived today! Thank you, thank you Bart and Maurice (where ever you may be). I love it! Can't wait to play with it! I will post some notes in the performance review thread later. Thank you so much! :)

A few cracks and imperfections on the sides and combo side, but the cracks are stable and the imperfection (seen well in the slurry stone pic) is easy to avoid and can probably be ground out with some light sanding.

They also threw in a beautiful slurry stone that probably has almost as much surface area as the hone.

Can't wait to use this lovely bit of rock. Thanks again Bart.

I'd love to see more of that wonderful ruler! :p

I'm waiting for reserve #2 to arrive. I haven't had a chance to look further at gluing La Crackette, maybe this coming weekend...
