Ebor

After years of searching one of my holy grail razors finally arrived.
Family resemblance with other offerings from producer Hermann Zaiss is unmistakable: same two-tone handle, same head, similar clasp-mechanism to connect both. Except of course, this is not slanted. And the base is blank, where on all other two-tones I’ve seen from Zain’s the brand name is featured there.

So why is Ebor so rare? This razor seems to have the option of using it slanted and regular. It should have been the default model instead of the only slanted ones.
If I was Hermann Zaiss, I would've produced only this style.

It can only be used in this position. It is rare because either very few were produced, or very few survived, or very few people want to part with theirs. Which is understandable.

Oh, I thought it could be used in a slanted position like Neo-RAS. Is there a razor that can do this?

There's several. Ofcourse, the ones with balljoint, such as Pacific or Peroni, but also some Punktal, Sonnal and others, that are angle adjustable in three positions.

I don't think many were made.
The patent for the handle is rather late (1950): https://razors.page/patents/DE801132/
That's 13 years after the original patents for the head.
And there was a major war between 1937 and 1950.
I think it was an attempt by Fritz Ebert and Charlotte Orlowski to revive the pre-war success of Neo-Whatevers. And it didn't work.

I tried a Neo-XXX and liked it best when I held the handle at an angle and the head straight. It was a most marvellous shave.
That's why I want an Ebor. They look good (Charlotte's handle) and shave great (the Ebert head) without the stupid slantiness (sorry, Richard)

I still can't believe that all I had to say was 'Do you have an Ebor instead' when swapping razors with Renzo - he sold one to Richard shortly after.
If I ever meet him again I'll go with a plan. Except that this time I have no unicorn for swapping...
Never mind - I'm a full-time SE guy now anyways. I still want an Ebor. *sigh*

Come on Andreas, you got yourself a good deal with Renzo. We always crave what we don't have.
Besides, you are closer to the source than me. You will definitely get one before I do. If you really want it, you will get it.
