Do you know what layer it might be from by any chance?

Hard to tell form a distance. A good picture of the sides of the hone could help a positive id.
If I had to take a wild guess, I'd say it looks like a "La Dressante".

Best regards,
Bart.

Interesting. What are the characteristics of it? It's a select grade stone I got from Fendrihan. Man oh man I didn't realize how much I missed my coticule :p

Hey Bart,

just uploaded some more pics on SRD. Hopefully that gives you a better idea. It just read your definition of La Dressante and that would make sense. It does go dark grey pretty quick and the sound factor is also true.

Borrowed bandwidth from SRP to show the sides of that baby.

Hehehehe…. I like that diamond shape stone, in fact I honed a few razors on a 2”x2” (50x50mm) ceramic stone and found it very comforting to rest it in the palm of my hand (though it was not diamond shape)
I had to change my honing strokes to compensate to the short length it worked out OK. I may be looking for a Coticule of the same size to do the same again.

Nice... 6 inches is the perfect size for a hone... Well, that how i like them... as a matter of fact, that's about the size of most razor hones throughout history.

I've found that around 6" in a comfortable size for me too. I've always preferred holding the stone in my hand while I hone, so anything that I can balance on my palm seems to work just fine for me. Weren't antique razor hones (i.e. barber hones) mainly used by simply holding them in the palm of your hand? It would explain why they're a great size for hand-held honing.

Now back on topic...JF, I'm glad that you've enjoying your coti so much! You really seem attached to it. :) It's just something about these stones... I understand completely!
