I have to say....

like i say i'm not that sure how j nats work. all i no is with a mud like paste on j nat, i could set bevel and shave arm hair like so easy and so smoothly. my j nat cuts [pritty well with slurry. just does not dull . Its ust having the razors and time to keep testing of j nat. i'm a little more in need of getting on with shaving with one razor. i don't think i have shaved of the same razor more than 5 times in the past months. So i keep promisimg my self to use just one razor. i think i need a brake from honing.

Gary,

I've recently started only using three razors in my entire collection. I use one for about 5 days and then switch to the other one and so on. I really like doing this because the shaves get better and better due to your experience with that edge on your face. I think if one stuck to two razors their whole life the shaves would be amazing after some practice. Unfortunately we all buy razors and honing is a HUGE thing with this hobby to us, it seems the hones are more popular than the razors!

very true, sticking with same razors, you would learn a lot more about the way they hone up , how long they would last betwen touch ups etc. also adapt to that razor, like you would your hone.

Also, the way that razor curves around your face better and better.

These are true gems, I say, Gentlemen! Thank you, I'd probably benefit from such an approach, too. Let me just finish honing this near-wedge, old find.

Matt

I haven't a J nats Gary ,but i find that the Escher slurry does not dull at all. However Escher
requires to finish on diluted slurry and not on water only.

EScher/Thuringer Slurry breaks down and becomes finer and finer in a flake type mode the same as a Japanese Natural stone which is why I always finish on a slurry with my YG escher or Japanese Stones. The particles of this slurry are much like flat plates that become thinner and thinner or Finer and Finer as the weight of the razor breaks them apart...

You really will, trust me! I've been doing the limited razor approach for some time and you really get to know your face without thinking about how the razor is different...It just leads to great shaving results across the board.

Nick,

I, for one, appreciate this post. I hope now you can appreciate a bit better why the notion that coticules are too variable and scarcely are "good enough" for honing is irritating (to put it mildly) to some of us. Good stuff

Best regards,

Paul
I have read alot of those posts on another forum. At first I figured I must be the luckiest man on earth because I managed to get five coticules and all of them produce great edges! Now I know better.
