I think I'm back on track!

I taped a bevel on my French frameback to show the differnce in with and without soap for the average new person to coticules who can get a good edge but not a great one.The tip of the bevel is with Speik. I think it works as good as any. first is 400x and second is 20x This is before stropping

can't wait for the video. I've tried lather a few times, but I don't know if I get the 'dry' lather deal.

Gonna give this a go, but would love to see a video of it being done. My Coticule has a gritty feel to it with just water and I have tried lather for finishing strokes before with sub par results. This sounds like it may do the trick.

Great post

Hi Scott,

That's a striking difference, but we have to acknowledge the fact that the secondary bevel only carries scratches from the Coticule + lather process, while the primary bevel part seems to show a mixed patter of scratches left by Coticule + water, with other scratches of previous stages shining through (which is not abnormal).

But I too have noticed under the scope that the Coticule + lather procedure as I suggested it leaves clearly a more polished looking finish.

Thanks for those pictures,
Bart.

Just shaved with the SUper Doll razor. Very nice shave with my Moos+Palmolive combination soap. I would give it a nice 7.5-8 out of 10. It could maybe use a bit more, but it's certainly capable of giving great shaves. It's not yet on par with the H.Diamond #1000, but I'm sure it has more to give.

I got ya. So your saying it looks better because I never hit it with slurry? Your welcome for the pics.

Yes, I think that to be true. But that doesn't mean I deny that the finish with this approach couldn't offer a more shiny polish. It's just so that the secondary bevel is fully polished by definition, because it's cut with nothing else than the discussed method. While the primary bevel clearly doe not look completely covered by it's final polishing on water.

Note that I don't think that is even necessary. My Dilucot edges don't look perfectly polished either and though I could add a couple of 100 laps on water to completely wipe away any remnants of the slurry polish, the edge wouldn't shave better. I don't really adhere to the "polishing school" of sharpening razors. (I'm not implying that you do either)

The picture remains an interesting one.

Kind regards,
Bart.
