Meeting Up

I was wondering if there are any future plans for a meet and greet in Belgium that involves going to the quarry. I am only asking because I would really like to go this time, and would like to make sure I save money, and reserve time off from work.

I know I may be a bit ahead, but I am just trying to cover my bases.

If there's the interest, and a mutual date can be found, I'm game.

Whatever happens, I'll try to organize something "international" in September 2011, but the location has not been decided upon yet. Could be any European country.

Kind regards,
Bart.

Now where could we go to ??

[sub]subliminal msg ... germany ... solingen ... revisor[/sub]

Solingen sounds like a plan in general, keeping in mind that the city is a) small, and b) not exactly exciting outside the cutlery business. For those who speak German, there is a lot of interesting stuff here: http://www.zeitspurensuche.de/02/sg0.htm. Try this search for razors in Solingen: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=rasiermesser+site%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.zeitspurensuche.de. Something like this sounds like a lot of fun: http://www.solinger-schneidwaren-designkontor.de/?s=schneidigscharf.

I was completely underwhelmed by Old Bond / Jermyn Street, otherwise I'd suggest that instead - London's a lot more interesting than Solingen. I wonder if there is anything left in terms of razors in Sheffield. Hm. Thiers is in the middle of nowhere...

I seriously doubt it, and Sheffield is IMHO a grim dirty depressing city :(

If we are not going to Belgium, could we not at least look for somewhere "Fun"

What about Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada!! Sounds to me like the most logical area for us to meet! ::thumbup:

Why not Athens, because it is the oldest town over from proposed.

Berlin has two advantages: it is dirt cheap, and there is lots and lots to see. The drawback: There is next to nothing razor wise. Okay, The Different Scent is always worth a visit, and we have enough room in our house to accommodate quite a few people (and then there's the industrial strength barbecue station in the garden). But realistically, it would be a pretty much non razor related place to visit.

Alright, make that three advantages: affordable, exciting, and easy to reach. On the down side, the local food is not meant for eating. Currywurst in particular.

How generous, Robin. I may even leave you alone for a while. Scratch that. Strong message to follow.

Berlin is interesting. I was thinking I may try to go there sometime this year depending on how fiscally responsible it is.

Robin,

It's interesting you talk about the local food that way. We have a large part of Texas where Germans, primarily, settled, and my wife and I went to another area in Pennsylvania with a great German influence... Both places had terrible food in general. I'm glad to know that's not just me. :D

Best,

Paul
