THE RAZOR ALPHABET

Thanks guys.

I also think we might need a better place in the menu structure for our dictionary, than where it's located now. If you guys have any suggestions, I'd welcome them.
It is out of place in the Heritage. Maybe instead of having "The Mine" just being an FAQ it can be general straight info section, beginners/newcomers section, or something? I think the Razor Alphabet would feel at home there.

:w00t: Man this great Justin, I couldn't do it better myself.
I have a few more add... and also finish "Points"... maybe i could send you what I have so we don't duplicate our efforts.

Enjoy the season my friend.

I will. Spring semester doesn't start until 11 Jan.!!! You can go ahead an shoot me an email, or just post in this thread.

Justin

The "mine" is all about "digging up" information. :)
You're correct: it's a much better spot for our precious dictionary. As soon as I find some time, I'll split the mine in 2 subsections. One with Faq articles and the other one with our new Glossary. Both features are related anyway and will eventually contain many crosslinks. It might be even doable to have tooltips in the faq, that shows the descriptions of the glossary each time a word out of that glossary is used.

Ok for everyone?

Bart.

I just got a new camera, and it takes amazing photos compared to the POS that I was using before. I'm going to try and take some pics for the Razor Alphabet when I get home. :)

I would take some photos myself, but I got all my nieces and nephews visiting and I cant do ANYTHING for almost a month now.
Thank goodness they will all be returning home this week:cry:

Haha. Family get-togethers. Remember you only have to do this once a year. My father was in the USAF. Got up and left at the age of 18 (or something), took my mother with him, and ran off to Spain. The rest history. :) As a result we've never been close to what little family we have, but we are very close with each other. I don't really care anyway. Let's just say we're worlds apart.

How is this?

Should I try taking a picture with a better background?

Hmmm, though the background is indeed attractive, it may be a tiny bit distracting.
It’s like selling a used car… doesn’t matter if it’s a “lemon”, with a pretty girl standing in front, the guy shells out the cash...

Remember we are not selling razors... only the pretty girls...err that should be, we are not selling anything... Now, where is that glass of wine... steady my nerves.

Try a solid background or a boring background, plaid or even wooden background so the razor will be the focus of attention.

BTW what is that background?... it looks like an area rug (does bring back some pleasant memories... my wife would not be amused).

Glad you like. :) I'm a fan of Turkish/Middle Eastern rugs. Our Turkish buddy hooks us up with really generous offers, and I find it hard resist.

Those are two of my best ones. Million point, very nice.

How should I go about adding in the Razor Diagram into the definitions? I put a little Lightbox thumbnail in, check it out. I don't like how it wastes space like that, and if you add it right at the end of the definition instead of on a newline it bumps the last line down a bit. I'll have to play with it. It would be cool if you could just do a link that pops up a Lightbox image.

Justin

Justin,

I added a class descriptor to the image tag of "Pivot". ("dict_thumb"). After that, I made a new style sheet, called "dictonnary" and defined a ".dict_thumb" class. I changed your account to add access to the "style sheets" tab. Please watch out with the other style sheets. Let's agree to keep all future style definitions for the glossary in the "dictionnay" style sheet. I've made some quick adjustments to the ".dict_thumb" descriptor, but I'll leave the playing around with it to you.

OK?

Best regards and thanks for all the hard work,
Bart.

I decided to resurrect this thread from the great beyond. How about Shank? I was admonished one time for identifying the tang as that part of the razor between the pivot and the shoulder when, according to this person, it is actually the shank.

Any thoughts on this?

Mmm new one on me?
Shank is a cut of Lamb, or a tools shaft, but part of the tang of a razor? Nah

Perhaps this person spent too much time behind bars. I have never heard of the Tang being called a Shank. This could, however, be more regional than any thing else.
