Of course... no :)

Are there many paste finishers out there?

I do it.

The name of the abrasive alone doesn't say much about it's usability except hardness. Particle size, purity and shape must also be taken into account. The cr2o3 in [1] is not suitable for finishing straights.

Nice things to play with are [2](cr2o3), [3] (fe2o3). They can be found nearly ready to use in arts and craft shops but are mislabled as 'oil paint' (dilluting with oil will help to spread them more sparingly). Look for a colour tube with just one pigment (pg17 or pr101). I can recommend pg17, works.

Some people use newspaper and like it. That didn't do much here.

It's actually softer the steel, so it wouldn't do much:

Strange things happens when various stuff turns into oxide form.
Titanium gets soft, aluminum very hard.

Pastes has their place, sometimes as a help to get the most out of an edge &
sometimes to get an all ready finished edge a little extra zest.

Cerium Oxide
CBN=Cubic Boron Nitride = black diamond
Flexcut Gold
Linde A = 0.3 micron Aluminum Oxide

Cubic Boron nitride is actually harder than diamond, one of 2 substances.
You would imagine this to give a harsh edge to a razor, maybe crystal shape is a factor?
:-/

I thought so too, but it doesn't.
It's far smoother then diamond.
Why it is that way, I'm not really sure of,b ut it probably has soemthing to do with the various angles & shapes the CBN particles have.
Much like the garnets in coticules or the abrasives in J-nats, they are not uniform.
Maybe that is why it creates such a smooth edge, despite it's tiny size & incredible hardness.
The 0.125 CBN creates the sharpest edge imaginable, but still it isn't harsh on the face.
However, the wicked sharpness does make it rather unforgiving & you really have to pay close attention to what you are doing when shaving.
I myself have a rather sensitive face, but I can still get a full 3-pass shave without any irritation or blood-loss. Sure, my face feel rather rejuvinated afterwards, but still very pleasurable.
Once I get some of that stuff home, i'll see what it can do in cooperation with a coticule :)

See, we're never satisfied. Sharper than the soap trick? Who needs it. It's just another gimmick. It's like doctors just giving out pills instead of real healing. Nobody is willing to put in the work required to do a proper job. I think it is disgraceful.

I ordered mine from Ken' Corner (Chef Knives to Go affiliate) for about 35 bucks.

Mmm I will have to ask Tom if he will send me a sample

Best wishes

I have some CBN plus another few goodies coming in the mail from Ken.
I'd be happy to send the Good Doctor a piece of balsa smothered in the stuff.
(Balsa is what works with CBN)
