Water spot removal ?

Ray,
That sounds great, I can't wait to shave with it. I made sure the postage was over what was required for the weight, so no need to go out of your way to the post office. Thank you for helping me out.

Wish you & yours a prosperous new year,
Louis.

Ray,
I received the razor in the mail Saturday, looks great & is sharper than I have been able to get any of my razors yet. I shaved with it this morning, (smooth) BEST shave yet with a straight!:thumbup: Thanks again. I now have a benchmark to aim for when honing. Do you have any tips you can share with me on how you got the toe of this razor for when it needs a touch up?

Still learning, appreciate the help,
Louis

Louis,
Glad it worked out for you. As you know, the tip had a really bad chip out of it and needed re-forming. After that, the rolling-X stroke was used to do the honing. In this case, however, I had some issues with the tip and had to literally hone just that area by itself during the final stages. This is something you will be able to do later as your experience increases. So for now, just use the rolling-X stroke until you get a nice edge on the tip and across the whole blade.

I've had pretty good luck with fine stainless steel wire brushes.

I picked up a small, fine wire brush today after reading this post last night. I used it on a razor I'm working on and had fantastic results. It tooks the black out of some small pitted areas, and almost instantly removed a spot of rust from an area under the tang that I was having trouble getting the sandpaper into.

...so thanks for the tip!

Can we see a picture of your results?

Did you mean me? I can post some when I'm done with it and have it repinned. The wedge snapped in half when I was un-pinning it so I have to get a new wedge that I can sand down... I'm not equipped to make my own wedges yet, so there is a bit of work left to do.

Well, here's what I have so far. This is the blade before I have repinned it. I took it as far as I wanted with the polish. It could go more mirror shined, but I like it like this. I didn't take a before pic, but the spine was black, some black on the blade, and rust on and under the tang (which was where the wire brush came in handy). It has a bit of a frown that will need honed out. Not sure how to do this yet but I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

This is actually my first restoral project. I still have to get a wedge and shape it, then repin it.
