That's a one hefty chunk of stone! I don't think hand honing is comfortable with it, is it?
The surface reminds me my La Grosse Blanche a little, but I've never played those "guess the layer" quizzes, so that's really all I can tell . Jared will be much more resourceful, not mentioning Bart, of course.
As for its value, current Ardennes's pricelist states 263 € for a standard grade, 343 € for a selected grade. And it's a combo, too!
I don't know. By the irregular transition line, I would also think La Dressante, at first sight. But the blue hairlines showing at the narrow side of the Coticule part, the presence of those white dots (they are not the garnets, as sometimes thought), and the paleness of the surface, are all indicating La Nouvelle Veine.
Layer determination often remains a long shot.
Like I said before, I love this rock, but I prefer something smaller for razor honing. Even though I don't want to, I've been thinking about selling it to purchase a smaller coticule. I'm a graduate student now and all of a sudden my finances have become macro in importance--
It's just hard letting go of a natural coticule of this size...
