Correct way to holding hair while HHT performing

I have a reactor and have discovered how to split garnet molecules into the new garnet element that my minions have aptly named Kellinium, which is much smaller than an obsidian molecule. (10 to the minus 5 to be exact) I can now sharpen a razor with my eyes closed and get a MAX edge radius in the 300 nanometer range. More to follow after I publish.

Tonight before shave I did about 15 light strokes water only. The razor was amazing.
 
As already mentioned, this is still very much under development. You need a perfectly executed Dilucof edge. At the very least it must pass HHT-1 or 2. Make sure the Coticule is clean and allow it to dry completely. Take a puck of hard soap and rub it on the surface of the hone. Moisten your thumbs lightly and even out the coat of soap. A thin layer is good. Make sure it is dry before continuing.
Give the razor 30 X-strokes. It is possible that some of the soap gunks up on the razor. That's ok. Clean the bevel under a running tap, dry the edge and probe with the HHT. Repeat up to 3 times until the edge makes a spectacular jump in HHT. Strop as usual.

Regarding obsidian edges I have quite a bit of obsidian that I make into heads for my atlatl darts. I haven't been knapping for more than a year, but in my limited experience I would not want obsidian for an edge. I contacted the man who taught me to knap, he told me that this has been discussed extensively on many knapping fora and in clubs. Big surprise, there is a split of thought. He comes from the thought that there is no way that he would ever shave with obsidian because the line is uncontrollable and doesn't form a nice smooth line. How he described it sounds similar to microchipping. Also to have a renewable edge would take a larger piece of obsidian because the only way to create one continuous curve is to use a single striking motion from a larger piece like the gentleman in the video above.

How the hell did anyone ever figure this out? I can't imagine sitting there going... "Hey maybe I should rub soap on my coti, let it dry, and see what happens!"
 
remind me to introduce you to my friend dennis. i can picture it happening pretty much like that, maybe with a little encouragement from chris.

Not one-to-one comparison, but Carborundum stones used to include the following:
DIRECTIONS FOR USE.
USE A THIN CLEAR OIL IF STONE CUTS TOO RAPIDLY. TEMPER BY SOAKING THE STONE IN A PAN OF HOT PETROLEUM JELLY. FILLING PORES OF THE STONE. FOR CLEANING STONE WASH WITH KEROSENE.

Soap is not the same as oil or petroleum jelly, but the principle is similar: mask the biting surface of the abrading material. There is an old tradition of using shaving lather on Barber stones too.
