Coticule selection offer

They look Japanese. Tell Maurice that he can claim that they were found in an old hardware shop and that he can add at least $200 to the price of each.

Jens: La Grosse Blanche - 20X150X30 28EUR
I had to turn the place upside down for finding Grosses Blanches. It doesn't get much smoother than those.
How sweet is that price? :)

skhazle: La Nouvelle Veine. - 30X150 43EUR
A very fine La Nouvelle Veine, known to deliver mellow edges. For Dilucot, there is the small keenness challenge that seems to come with all mellow finishers, but this one was a bit faster on water than most La Nouvelle Veines. Which might shift it a tad more in the "engaging" direction, but also makes it easier to achieve good keenness.

BlacknTan: La Grise - Bout size 10 - 20X170X60 110EUR
This one looks much more stunning in reality than the picture shows. It carries beautiful red striae. I had never seen something like it. Spend a bit extra time testing this one, doing a full razor honing. It's as sweet as the sweetest La Grises, which is an highly underestimated layer anyway.

Tok: A La Petite Blanche with a rash.:) Bout size 8 - 20X170X40 81EUR
"Not narrower than 2 cm at the narrowest point" he said. "Not shorter than 14cm" he said. "A La Petite Blanche" he said. "Maximum 80EUR" he said. I failed on the price. I also turned Ardennes upside down for La Petite Blanches.
Note that this is a glued Blanche (rare, but it happens), hence no BBW on the back. The blue "evidence line" is present though.

Justin: La Veinette: 40X125 69€
Enough thickness for 3 generations. A very uniform, perfect La Veinette bout. What can I say? Talk to Ralfy, if you need someone to sing the praises of this layer...

More to come,
Bart.

Wow, those are all beautiful, especially the La Petite Blanche.

BlacknTan: I can assure you that Bart choose very well for your criteria. You will not be disappointed. (Not that the others will, though!)

Ralfy: La Petite Blanche 40X150 88EUR
Nothing much to add (I did run a short test, but I know these pale La Petite Blanches well enough to dream in color about them. If you need singing praises, talk to Paul.

Richmondesi: La Petite Blanche 50X200 192EUR
"He's going to hate me for this", I said to Maurice. :-/ But what option did I have? Even though it's glued, this is a Queen of Blanches. It isn't even blanche. It's the same kind of red as n°49 of the Vault. The cloudy surface has a holographic character that doesn't show in the picture. The slurry is pleasantly colloidal, almost like a hydrogel. I expect a full test report of this one.

Jleeg: La Petite Blanche: 40X150 105EUR
A slightly slimmer twin of the thick bugger I found for Ralfy, with the exception that this one is rated "select" and Ralfies baby is rated "standard". That is not my call to make.

Harvitz81: La Veinette - Bout - 60X125 103EUR
The fastest one I tried today. Which I could have found one a bit longer, but this one won't disappoint. I loved doing elliptical strokes on it, but it accommodates halfstrokes too.

vgeorge: La Dressante - Bout size 10 60X170x80 110EUR
"Someting unique" he said. :) I adore this hone, being a sucker for unique myself. Performs like the La Dressante I couldn't part with myself when the last Vault went back.

To be continued,
Bart.

Kessel113: La Veinette 50X150 114EUR
Is there a better hone to start with than a La Veinette? (and the price is pretty sweet too) :)

Justin Mallit: La Grosse Blanche 50X150 136EUR
Found it at the bottom of a box filled with other Coticules. It was very oxidized. That is typical for this layer: they turn chocolate brown when exposed to (sun) light (or just air?) for a prologued time. My testing exposed most of the creamy color underneath the tanned surface.

Laurent Plankaert: La Veinette 40X150 96EUR
This may be starting to be boring. There are many La Veinettes in the selection. They were present. I don't usually hesitate in that case.

Isaac Estrada: Les Latneuses Bout size 10: 50X150X70 110EUR
This is the only Les Latneuses in the selection, and it is glued to slate. Several of you asked for one, but they just weren't present right now. I'd like to formally state that I didn't do any special favors. Trying to find hones and matching them with all the descriptions out the requests was complicated enough. To make it worse, each time I read some of the descriptions out loud, Maurice was shouting "Wait" and running off to his office or the workshop, returning with something special. This went on for almost 4 hours. My head was seriously spinning by then. :D

Danjared: La Veinette 50X150 148EUR
Asked for a figure La Veinette with blushes of lines. I went for polka dots. :p

Almost done,
Bart.

Sweet! Super fast stone and a La Veinette as well. Can't wait to try it out.

Also, fill me in on elliptical strokes? Guess I'll just have to play with it and find out. Soon to be my most indispensable hone.

Some may take offense that I use other finishers (though I use a coti plenty as well), but to me the coticule is the most valued hone in my toolbox. To be able to come off a DMT and go all the way to finish (or pre-finish in some cases) on one stone is invaluable.

Bart, I cannot expense my gratitude enough for picking out a nice fast stone for me.

Oh WOW on Richmondesi's stone. That is absolutely beautiful.

I thought I had HAD under control and have told myself that this is it, but seeing all these pictures I want more and more coticules. I have enough other finishers, but these things are beautiful!

Hahaha. Well, I like polka dots too! Thank you Bart for selecting this hone for me. And, I must say, that is a rather thick chuck of coticule. (Is that really 50x150? It looks larger than the other ones of that size in that picture.)
