New coticule came today!

My other les latneuses came today! I don't know what happened, but ardennes hooked me up big time! They sent me a 200x40 or 50 square coti! I only paid for a no9 select bout. My guess would be that they either were thanking me for this thread or they messed up and didn't have a bout (could be both:thumbup: ). Anyhow, here are some pictures. I am comparing it to my older one and also to barts OTB Veinette for those who know its size.

If Ardennes sees this somehow, I would like to thank them again. I have gotten nothing but top notch service from them. Although they are more expensive, I would rather have paid a little extra to get exactly what I needed (even a little extra for free:D ) Thanks again guys, I will buy some more again in the future!

The hybrid side on this one is A LOT softer than my first. It raises slurry like a coticule should. My older one is impossible. I instead rub a hybrid slurry on a diamond hone and transfer the remnants. The whole hone is a lot softer overall. The regular side is faster than my older one. The Hybrid is slower than all four (both cotis and hybrids).

Ive tested it on two razors and here are how all 4 hones compare
Speed on slurry
Hybrid bout Fastest by far. Slurry turns black.
Square Coti
Coti Bout
Hybrid Bout

Speed on water
Square coti -Autoslurries

Torben, Ive included two pictures of razors for you. I haven't decided yet which one to send you. That Robeson actually has the sticker that came when you would have bought it. It says "Ground and Honed for Wiry Beard, Skin exposed to weather". I was wondering if when you make scales you could attach the sticker and then clear coat something over it? If that is to much to ask then I will send you the W&B instead. I really appreciate your offer buddy, it means a lot to me:thumbup:

Regards Gents!

I was thinking about how my Bout Hybrid gets dark slurry so fast. My hypothesis is that with a normal coticule the slurry is regenerating while you hone. My guess is that this slows the rate of color change. When I hone on my hybrid bout the hardness has to limit the amount of auto-slurry. Maybe the darker slurry is a result of more steel in the slurry? This could also count for its ability to reach keeness batter. It wouldn't need dilution as much, because the water would stay at a given slurry level for a longer time.

This is all my guestimation, take it for what its worth!

Oh, and just so you all know, this thing is a joy to use! Its feedback feels a lot more like I think leslatneuses should feel. It has a buttery smoothness with a nice sense of abrasion and just a slight draw. Its a very nice hone. My mom said I can borrow it for a while and put it to good use. I just wish it had a little more character like my first one.
