OCtober 2019

Tonight's shave was with my Chinese no name clone DOC razor. This happens to be one of the most inefficient razor I have held on to. The only reason I hold on to it is because the cap is an excellent Frankenrazor part. For the first time this month, It took me three complete passes plus serious touch up to achieve a BBS. Luckily, I started using my newly acquired 26mm finest badger brush which produced enough lather for five passes. :daumenhoch

I prefer the combination of the DOC cap paired with the clone Muhle base plate, a combination which Yaqi refers to as the Beast Hybrid. I guess I should have shaved with that combination instead as the cap will still qualify the razor as an OC.

Tonight, another dual comb razor of which I shaved with just one side. This is the Mulcuto No. 1. No, Mulcuto never came out with a dual comb razor, however a couple of years ago, a company bought the Mulcuto name and started producing "Mulcuto" razors again. The No. 1 was their first (and probably their only) razor. They copied the distinctive railroad spike handle extremely well. the razor itself has a very long comb, even on the safety bar side, and it is a very comfortable shaver. It is also very deceptive because you believe it is not doing any work, but after two passes, you are very close to a BBS.

  • Fatip Piccolo L.E. OC
  • Polsilver Super Iridium (3)
  • J&T Marblewood 26mm Tuxedo
  • B&M Angelique
  • Stirling AS Balm - Varen
  • Loris - So Oud
BBS & DFS in 3 rounds, the soap performed great, the fragrance is a bit to flowery for me, and misses the punch of the B&M Gothique. Not bad, just not WOW.

Tonight's shave was with the Swing OC. Many of us are familiar with the Swing SB, which is an extremely efficient shaver. Unfortunately the OC version was just an average shaver, which was on the mild side. It took two passes plus a lot of touch up to get a near BBS. :kopfkissen

After last night's uneventful shave, it was made up for with tonight's shave with my Flat Bottom, Made in England Gillette New. I don't know what the English Gillette folks did to the New, but this razor is as comfortable as the New Long Comb, but much more efficient. Paired with my WCS Finest Badger brush (which I am still breaking in), I had a very comfortable two pass plus minimal touch up BBS.

So today I had planned for the arrival of my Paradigm Diamondback, and even started OCtober a day early just for this purpose. However, Paradigm had other plans and I have yet to receive my ship notice for my Diamondback. I decided that Fridays I normally shave with a Feather blade and had my Vector loaded with a guard blade and thought that fits the definition since the blade itself is an OC. I am still trying to learn this razor, but tonight, I got closer as I had a two pass plus touch up BBS.

@UnShaven and @Wilco Roos, I noticed that at the start of OCtober, both of you used the Timeless OC. Now that I don't know when my Paradigm will arrive, I am starting to look at other razors to occupy my time (and money). How would you rate the Timeless OC, and do you prefer the .95 or .68 plate?

I use the Timeless Ti en SS 0.95 OC. I use the dimpled shorter handle voor the SS the Ti doesn’t have the option for multiple handles. Bothe are smooth shavers but the Ti has a softer face feel. When I use the scalloped cap on the SS it’s way to aggressive and the it’s prone to draw blood, with the smooth cap it’s one of my favourite razors..
The 0.68 is to mild for me and the angle is very small. Because the SS is a heavy razor pressure is something what you don’t want to use. I like both version of the razor the re is no favorite between the two.

I don't love it, i rate my Fatip Piccolo OC LE much higher, it is an unforgiving razor in the 0.95 version, i also have the .68 scalloped but that one is also unfriendly. @The King once told me only the solid bar in both widths is a nice shaver, as i do not have that version of bottom plate i can not confirm or deny. It also could b a lack of skill, as i hear @UnShaven enjoys the beast.
It is one of the few razors i own that i am willing to sell

The 0.68 bottom plate there I can be short about this version is far too mild for me.

The Scalloped 0.95 with closed comb was for me on the edge of comfortable for daily use.
The Scalloped open comb went well over that and I found for daily use absolutely not suitable.

Because I had read reviews indicating that the 0.95 Smooth version much more comfortable as the Scalloped version jeb I then bought it and yes, this Smooth shaves much more pleasant.
However, I only used the Smooth version with a closed comb so I can't judge this combination with a open comb.

Saturday night and so another shave with a SE OC razor. Tonight was with my Mardor, which was the typical French Hoe design of the time, made popular by L'essor. I used the Mardor blade that came with the razor. Unlike previous times, the wedge blade held it's edge and I was able to get away with a two pass plus touch up near BBS. I have come to the realization this month that a BBS is extremely hard to achieve with the wedge blades.
