OCtober 2019

  • Karl Engels OC
  • Lord Classic (2)
  • Yaqi Evil Zebra
  • Noble Otter - Jungle warrior
  • Aramis - Splash
  • Aramis - EdT
2 rounds an a bit of touch up, BBS & DFS. WOW! This Karl Engels is one hell of an efficient razor, after two rounds i felt my skin (out of habit) and was very surprised not to be able to feel any stubble almost everywhere. Note to self: Treat it with respect, it does bite when pressure is used.
The Yaqi has a wonderful knot, soft but sturdy enough to stay useful.
The soap is a keeper, one hell of a Fougère scent, quite noticeable without being overwhelming, less than the Stirling Varen but loads better than most other variants, with, again, a whole different scent pallet to keep a soap aficionado happy. I rate this one easily as high as the B&M Fougère Ghotique, if you like fougère scent soaps, both of these should be should be in your shave den!

As we enter the last week of OCtober, I pull out what used to be my second best Gillette OC - the Made in England RFB. However with the acquisition of my Rotbart RFB, this razor has slipped to third best. Still a very smooth shaver that gives me a two pass plus touch up BBS.:daumenhoch

Tonight's shave was with my brass CG Lvl1 OC with hammered handle. One thing I enjoyed all of this month is being able to compare ost of my OC razors against each other. Somewhere in my regular rotation, I had forgotten how smooth and efficient the CG Lvl1 OC was. I had a very comfortable two pass BBS tonight, which I think is the highest level I have gotten among all the razors all month. :daumenhoch

I completely agree with that, I too was completely surprised by the mildness of the CG OC level 1 when used for the first time, coupled with a high level of efficiency.

I decided to take a break from OCtober today because it is my birthday and I usually shave with one of my Gillette birth year/quarter razors.:party1

Tonight's shave I just received back from North Shore Razors after having a Gunkote treatment. It was originally an X4 Super Speed that
I purchased for $10. Mechanically it worked fine but a little dull with plating loss (like the owner).

Because I live in the western side of Washington, I am required to be a fan of the Seattle Seahawks (American) football team. Their colors are
dark blue and grey with green trim and so that is what the colors of my X4 Super Speed is. I included a picture of the uniform on player # 52
(my birth year).

Shave tonight was very mild and uneventful, which is a typical Gillette Super Speed shave. Still, a very comfortable three pass BBS.

  • Timeless SS OC Scalloped
  • Rapira Platinum Lux (6)
  • Yaqi 24mm Purple Handle Mink Synthetic
  • Noble Otter - Two Kings
  • Mühle - Alum
  • Van der Lovett AS Balm - Sailors Blend
  • Loris - Vetiver Gold
Two rounds BBS, not DFS, after concluding the smoothness i deemed it necessary to do a quick 'Touch-up', bad idea, not the touch up, the quick part, two big bloody patches resulted, sigh.
The brush would have been perfect in a 28 or 30mm version, 24 is not my thing, but it does whip up a lovely big bowl of lather, where i needed little, 2 rounds and all that.
The soap is great, while lathering and shaving the Rose has the lead, after rinsing the Oud takes over, great combination!
The Loris upped the ante for the Oud part adding vetiver in the mix, ready to go to hospital :)

Not wanting to miss a slant day, my Fasan slant was postponed until today. This is my favorite Fasan (actually my only one since the other is a PAA clone). This is another of my razors that can give me a comfortable two pass BBS with no touch up. :daumenhoch

Final day of OCtober and I decided to use the setup I will be using for two weeks on my trip to Japan. Because I am not fond of being brought behind a curtain and being strip searched, I have learned to blend my shaving equipment along with all the other travelers. Tonight's shave was with my Gillette Guard razor, sample size of Stone Cottage shaving cream, Omega S-Brush and a small stainless steel bowl for hot water. The Gillette Guard continues to amaze me every time I shave with it. For OCtober, this razor performed as well as my CG Lvl1 - no blade feel, but ended up with a two pass BBS. What a way to end OCtober! :daumenhoch
