Weird shave. Lathering is no problem with a soap like this and the Yaqi brush.
When applying the lather to the face it seemed to dissipate. It was a struggle to keep the lather in a good working condition.
Maybe the MWF lotion which I used as a preshave is the culprit.
A decent shave with a not so spectacular result. No irritation though.

I read on the site of Paul Kox that mwf lotion is an excellent preshave. I have used it a few times. I have not encountered the disappearing foam issue. Except once, but that is probably caused by the shaving soap itself.

I also used the body lotion of MWF as a pre-shave and it works well and also does not notice that it works against the lather.

Having said that, it does happen that pre-shave on the lather can have a negative effect.
For example, the Castle Forbes pre-shave in combination with Mama Bears soaps is absolutely no success.

And also the Vitos menthol pre-shave is not a success with every shaving soap.

Menthol Monday:

Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
Super Speed/Gillette day 3
OSP Grapefruit Menthol SS
Lucky Tiger ASB
Reef Point Fougere Santal AS Splash
Givenchy Gentleman EdT

Not as frigid a setup as I would normally use on a Menthol Monday but still plenty cold. What a pity that James closed up his company because his soaps are magnificent. This Grapefruit Menthol soap has a lovely scent which I find is actually more to orange than anything else, the lather buries your face, and the menthol sensation is at a good middle of the road level. The postshave care is also very moisturizing as well as soothing. The Lucky Tiger balm is very similar to the Prep in terms of scent, cooling, and performance - in other words it’s terrific. The Fougere Santal aftershave was a gift from my darling wife and I love the scent and the menthol sensation it gives. Three passes made all that tough stubble disappear and I’m dolphin smooth!

Have a great week!

I’ll try a pre shave less shave next time with the MdC. See what that does. It just cannot be the MdC

So you can see that nothing is as personal as the experience of smell. :Eek
The OSP Grapefruit Menthol is one of the worst grapefruit scents I have ever had. The smell had a very musty undertone.

Actually, this was my big complaint with most of the OSP soaps that have been in the house.
Only the Eucalyptus & Tea Tree & Menthol and Lime & Peppermint & Menthol I like to smell and they are still here.

Razor: Timeless SS 0.95OC Dimpled handle
Blade: Hema (2)
Pre-Shave: Prep Cream
Soap: Oatcake Lavender Melt
Brush: AP Shave CO 24mm Synbad Winter handle
Aftershave: Physalis Hamameliswater
Aftershave: Loris Lavanta Cologne
Aftershave: L'Occitan L'Occitan Balm
EDT: L'Occitan L'Occitan

You have alway be careful with the Timeless SS 0.95OC, so to day i received a minor cut. :(

AP Shave Co Synbad 24 mm
Mama Bears - Oak Leaves & Acorns
Razorock Gamechanger 0.84
Lord Classic Super Stainless (2)
Humprey’s Citrus
Stirling Barbershop ASB

No picture today but a nice shave. This soap is a big winner for me!

  • Gillette Open Comb TTO Aristocrat ca. 1938
  • Polsilver Super Iridium (1)
  • DScosmetic 26mm Green Synthetic
  • Noble Otter - Two Kings
  • Loris - So Oud
After the cleanup, the Aristocrat turns out to be a great buy, good shave, almost BBS, but no lust for touch-ups today (as some cats in our house decided to have a shouting match, so i have to go intervene before fur starts flying), even the doors that were a struggle to open when i tried before the cleanup, are now functioning like new, smooth, in sync and no stutters anymore.
The soap is a dream, such a great scent, and it caries over in the lather as well, i have had soap with the smell of roses that had the roses disappear the moment you made a lather, no such problem here, the smell of the Roses and Oud is prominent and outspoken without overwhelming. Very nice indeed! The lather was rich and creamy, slides like an ice-floor ;-)
The Loris keeps performing, such a great Oud scent, a real gem for very little money!
What was wrong with our cats? Our Ocicat Napoleon, is a real annoying brat, he keeps pestering the other cats for some playtime, when all they want is some sleep, and when annoyed enough they are more then willing to defend their rest tooth and nails if needed, gladly a very rare occurance.

Sigh, now to get ready for the dentist, my least favourite time sink.
Have a nice day!

It really is a case of YMMV because I love the scent. The OSP Bay Rum has a magnificent scent too.

Tuesday morning:

Razorock Plissoft 26mm Monster
Super Speed/Gillette day 4
Cella SS
Fino ASB
Max Disinfecting AS Splash

It’s been too long since I’ve used the Cella soap - well over a year so I decided to pull it out this morning and I’m really happy that I did. That raw almond scent is so nice, it lathers like a champ, and it leaves such a comfortable postshave feeling. The Fino balm is an absolute necessity in my den at all times and the Max Disinfecting aftershave from Bulgaria smells beautiful - it’s also very soothing. Two passes were sufficient for a great BBS shave!

Pre-shave:
Vitos Menthol
Shaving Soap / Cream: Stirling Glacial Spearmint
After Shave : Alcolada
After Shave Balm: Stirling Glacial Unscented

Shaving Brush: Yagi 26 qmm. Syntheet
Safety Razor: Charcoal Level 2 SB
Razor Blade: Lord Classic

We're gonna go back to discipline and clear out a couple of shaving soaps.

The Stirling Glacial Spearmint is an old lady but it smells and is still doing great.

Now get enough energy to shave me every day because then we are on the right track again.
