Well-loved blades which disappointed you

From reading many many razor blade reviews, it looks like any type blade has widely different opinions. I guess there are numerous things to consider, such as type of razor the blade is fitted to, a persons skin type and age, hair growth. Here are some of my findings, based on buying assorted mixes over the years.

Rockwell Swedish Steel was terrible, way too aggressive and grabby for me and the experience was almost scary. A very rough blade. I tried several of these blades just to give them a decent chance, but they were all the same. I have no idea how many shaves one blade give before replacing as I discarded each one after a single shave each.

Feather New Hi Stainless I found easy to get along with, not too aggressive and only occasional razor burn. Not the holy grail blade that many reviews had me believe, but a very good blade that I can get four days worth of shaving.

Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Platinum is my current favourite as it gives me a smooth shave and no fear of cuts or nicks. No razor burn ever with this blade. I liked this one so much that I bought 200 (20 packs of 10 blades). Not the cheapest blade, but not the most expensive either. Four days shaving from one blade before it needs replacing.

Astra Superior Platinum. From all the good reviews, I expected miracles from these blades. So much that I purchased 100 based solely on reviews. Sadly, I found this blade just middle of the road. Slightly aggressive for someone who likes a smoother shave, but no razor burn to report. I use this blade as backup when I’m low on my favourites. Three days shaving before replacing the blade.

Perma-Sharp Super. Much better blade than I expected, considering the low price. Not too aggressive, only occasional razor burn. A very good value blade. Three days shaving before replacing.

Personna Platinum. Similar to the Perma-Sharp Super and just a bit more expensive. Occasional light razor burn. Three days shaving before replacing.

Gillette London Bridge. Very inexpensive blade that gives an extremely mild shave. When shaving, two passes with this blade doesn’t seem enough. No razor burn ever. Two days shaving dulls this blade.

I will follow up with more in the near future.

To elaborate on the Rockwell blade. It was a Rockwell Swedish Stainless Steel blade which I tried last summer. I had read good reviews and many people have expressed great shaving experience with that Rockwell blade,
I was expecting good results and a pleasant shave. I have to be honest and say it’s the worst I’ve ever tried and will never touch one again.
