Gary Shaves Mr Liam!

Hmmmm, I really regret that I missed a shave by Gary at the coticule weekend.
Seems like I need to find an excuse to hop over to Nottingham to catch up on that ..

ralfy seems like fokes think its you in the chair.Just to say its not ralfy its a mate and a tennant of mine. he lives above shop. we call him festa:D

i normaly use shavette on a customer. And trust me you have to use a feather light touch.
the razor i used was ralfys razor honed on coticule. As it was the first time i shaved liam, i did not no his beard that well. Also it is very differant for me using a razor i never held before. the thing i notice about a traditional straight , is you can use a little pressure and get away with it. most likely because they sooo forgiving. yes bart i use minimal pressure but keep the motion going, i find with a straight you have to do this . If you do a stroke and stop and then start again you loose rithym, so its best to keep the motion going . liam had a good weeks plus growth, ralfy will tell you. The other thing is you have to listen to the razor. If the razor is shaving along, and all of a suden i get a feeling where i feel i have to realy push to shave the stubble , i stop right there. This tells me i will be shaving atg and this may cause bleeding or tearing. Remember i don't no if liams skin can take atg. i asked him and he said he gets blood spots in his neck and it is sore after he has shaved.. i did actauly shave atg in the area, right at the end , the secret is to keep the blade completely flat and go slow .

we should of done a video of ralfy and me shaving how selfes. may be that what we will do next.

Thank you Gary for this post!

Maybe once all is said and done, an article can be put together and placed in the sharpening academy (not sure if the name would be appropriate any longer!).

That's gonna be a chartbreaker on youtube

It is very cool to see Gary doing what he loves to do.

I think you should have a serious, Gary!

Gary, I can't figure out how you can pinch the skin so easily. Maybe because your non-razor fingers are dry. When shaving my own face I can pull a little, or use a cloth, but you stretched and pinched Liam's face in every way. It would make it much easier if I could get a grip on myself...facewise, that is. I feel puny, indeed, in oh so many ways. Denny

It is a great video, I've watched it about 5 times now, (and I bought the music), trying to pick pointers up for giving a shave to my kid...
What's not coming through is the lack of pressure he's using. I find I still have a tendancy to use a bit more than is good for me.
The gem for me is the warning to stop when the blade stops, I tend to keep going when I probably shouldn't.

Denny, have you got an alum block? I've found I get better stretching when I moisten my fingers and rub 'em on the alum, gives a great grip. (Works well for me because I still haven't kicked the PSO habit)

The only thing I'd want to see different, guys, would be some dialog, like: "and here, I use this grip, and give a stroke.... blah blah blah " kinda thing. IOW, more explanation for us simple folk:D

Gary, I had a most wonderful shave this morning.
Sometimes, routine is a killer. This morning I went a step back. I paid close attention to every stroke and I carefully respected your tips. Short strokes, a very light touch, and a dead-flat blade atg. Wonderful Sir, just wonderful!
Thanks buddy!

Alas that is not my good self in the chair, I am younger slimmer and far better looking...lol
well slimmer anyway hahaha

I dont know about Mr Liam, I keep trying to steer him in the ways of the jedi, but he wanders back to hair trimmers once a week

Thanks again guys, oh and Denny you will find a mugshot or to of my good self in the "now then you guys" thread

Regards
Ralfson (Dr)

You know, Ralphy, I realized that wasn't you as soon as I posted but was too lazy to edit it. Still didn't answer the question about Liam's tats. Is that your work--very interesting, buddy. Denny

i always found flatter angle atg works much better.
cheers gary

i think it just comes naturaly and you will find most guys us 2/3 of the blade. infact me and ralfy both agreed that the most used part is 2/3. the heal is the least used when i shave my self. thats why if the whole blade is passing hht realy well and the heal not so well i tend not to worry to much. if it was the oposite end ie the toe end i'd be more concerned that that part was perfect. shave ettes are smaller.

Thank you, Doc. I finally got the answer. I was pretty sure that was your work. I am not an expert, but I know beauty when I see it, and you can produce it. Many, many talents indeed from a not-so-average Joe. Denny

Hi Dennis, I took the liberty of editing your post to fix the broken quote. You probably accidentally deleted the first quote tag, when you removed part of the quoted message.

I hope you don't mind.

Have a nice day, friend,
Bart.
