Prices of stones in the Vault

September.

I have a very busy schedule this summer. Coticules and honing is definitely a wintertime hobby for me. There's more in life than straight razors.

By the way, Ralfson, you can pick that La Veneitte for yourself during the Coticule weekend from 24 till 26 September.

Kind regards,
Bart.

I'm curious what the situation is with 42 and 43? Are they not being sold (no reservation mark, no price estimate)?
Hello Ian, welcome to Coticule.be :)
Both hones are from the "La Veine aux clous" layer. I've posted test results in this thread:
http://www.coticule.be/the-cafeteria/topic/548.html

Another "La Veine aux clous" turned up a while ago on Straightrazorplace. (As you may know, I'm not allowed to post over there, so I couldn't help with the determination) It has the same "clous" in the BBW part as n°42 and n°43, and according to my information the only layer with "clous" (translates: "nails") is "La Veine aux clous".
I don't know if my test results on these 2 correspond with the entire layer. They're the only 2 I ever tested, and they clearly were cut from the same chuck of raw Coticule rock. But La Veine aux clous does have the reputation of being much slower than average.

Kind regards,
Bart.

I'd like to buy 47 if that is still possible before the new system kicks in.

On a different note, I'd like to say I'm new to this whole thing and it looks very interesting. I assume 47 is a fine stone for a newbie to begin with. I'm a bit concerned with it's size, 2.5-3 cm seems very narrow.

Anyway I look forward to honing with a coticule :D

n°47 should still be available at Ardennes. It is, however, a narrow one that I would not immediately recommend if you still need to acquire the skills for sharpening razors on a Coticule. Nevertheless, with a bit of extra practice in performing a steady honing stroke, the narrow surface has its advantages, notably for smiling and/or slightly warped blades.

Just drop me an e-mail, and we'll figure out what your best options are.

Kind regards,
Bart.

As many of new members, I dream to get soon my "first" coticule with a convenient size for apprentice.
I have already contacted Ardennes-Coticule for a "La Veinette" but it seems they haven't anymore in their stocks.
Maybe all the remaining stones are in the new batch!;)

Bart, are there any interesting stones available at the moment? I am looking for a speckled one...

Soon, there will be new hones available in the Vault, with a new reservation system.
Stay tuned, you' ll notice when we start taking reservations.

I have several interesting ones that I need to test. There's a highly figured one among them, but I can't say anything about it before I have it properly assessed.

Kind regards,
Bart.

bart i would 'nt mind getting a 8x2 coticule from ardenees when i come over it has to be a fast cutter for doing all my my bevel work. my 54 can easily do it , but as its not that thick and it is a one of. I realy don't want to waste it.i no it would last for years but still its a hybrid and its my favourite.

You will be able to select one yourself during the Coticule Weekend. The guys at Ardennes don't mind if you would like to briefly test a few candidates before you make your choise.

Sounds good, doesn't it?

Bart.

Had I known about that, I would have surely attented to the coticule pilgrimage:lol:
Now seriously, I have profesional obligations those days that doen't enable me even to think to come (it's a pity because north of France is not far from south Belgium).
If anyone during the pilgrimage find something like a "La Veinette" or another good coticule for beginner (size something like 6'*2'), think about me, poor man:blush: who doesn't have a single hone, and please make a reservation for me at Ardennes.

2010/09/13 No need to make a reservation for me as Ardennes will send me soon a brand new "La Veinette":)
I wish you all a very instructive Pilgrimage week-end (I think there are much more brands of good beer in Belgium than different layers of Coticule;) )

Hello Bart,

Do you have any idea, when you manage to list the new batch? I love No. 65!

Regards, Tok

YES!:w00t:

Is the No.65 really that brown or is it just the surface? If yes, I can´t wait to read how it performs.

Kindest Regards,
Tok

Today I eat a Mars Bar,a large one. Before eating it,I lapped a few razors on it. It was great and I expect # 65 to be even greater in performance. Sorry, couldnt help it.. Its a very unusual stone, and I wish the lucky buyer good luck!

Kind regards
Torbs
